(historical) An upturned screen of wood or leather placed on the front of a horse-drawn carriage, sleigh or other vehicle that protected the driver from mud, debris, water and snow thrown up by the horse's hooves.

A panel beneath the windshield of a vehicle or aircraft containing indicator gauges, compartments, and sometimes controls and indicator lights.(This is the definition of an "instrument/gauge panel/cluster", which is technically different to a dashboard which is the part of the bodywork in which those are often installed or attached. The dashboard is goes across the whole width of the interior and these days is always padded, hence "padded dash". The instrument/gauge panel/cluster is usually a part in front of the driver, behind the steering wheel. Sometimes it is in the centre or extends from around the steering wheel to the centre. In non-technical use dashboard is used to also cover the panel/cluster, but the reverse is never true.)

(nautical) The float of a paddle wheel.

(video games) A graphical user interface for changing settings.

(Internet) The personalized feed of a user of a website, consisting of recent updates of pages the user has used or followed.
